A delicate insect dating to the Jurassic period

 

Here we can see a rare fossil insect of a giant shield bug who belongs to the species Scarabaeides deperditus. This late jurassic giant bug was found in in the lower Tithonian beds of the world famous Solnhofen Limestone at Eichstaett (Bavaria, Southern Germany). The specimen originates from a private german collection.

Size of the Insect : 5 cm
